PROVIDENCE, R.I. (American/SMU) - Senior Isabella Arcila was named the American Athletic Conference Women's Swimmer of the Week after winning a combined six events last weekend, league officials announced on Wednesday.
The Cali, Colombia, native won both the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke in meets versus Rice and Houston to help lead the Mustangs to a pair of dual-meet victories. Arcila also swam the first leg of the 200-medley relay against Rice, and occupied the same spot in the 400-medley relay against American opponent Houston for victories.
Arcila currently holds the nation's third fastest time in the 50-free at 22.56, which she swam at the SMU Classic on Oct. 17. She is also seventh in the country in the 100-back with a time of 53.47. In relay events, the Mustangs are second nationally in both the 200- and 400-medley.
This is the second women's conference award given out to the Mustangs in 2014, with senior Rachel Nicol winning the first.
The team is back in action Nov. 20-22 at the Texas A&M Invitational in College Station.
