OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (SMU) – A strong relay performance on the final day of competition propelled the SMU men’s swimming & diving team to a 17th-place finish overall at the KMSC Elite Meet on Sunday at Oklahoma City Community College’s Olympic Festival Pool.

In the 200-yard freestyle relay, SMU had both its ‘A’ and ‘B’ squads finish in the top 10.

The ‘A’ squad, featuring Bartosz Krzyzaniak, Ziga Cerkovnik, Brad Dorsey and Brooks Logan, touched the wall third (1:25.75).  The ‘B’ squad, consisting of Justin Gibson, Nicholas Hook, Tyler Rauth and Matthew Colket, placed seventh (1:28.02).

Eastman Holloway finished 12th in the 1,650-yard freestyle with a time of 16:38.70, putting the finishing touches on an impressive weekend in the distance events for the junior.  Holloway also placed 16th in the 500-yard freestyle and seventh in the 1,000 yard freestyle this weekend.

Several Mustangs competed in prelims on Sunday, but did not swim in the final heats.

Krzyzaniak qualified seventh (1:52.44) in the 200-yard backstroke, Cerkovnik qualified 10th (46.56) in the 100-yard freestyle and Rauth qualified seventh (1:53.51) in the 200-yard butterfly.  However, all three swimmers did not swim in the finals.

SMU’s performance at the Oklahoma City meet was highlighted by a first-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay on the opening night of action.  Krzyzaniak turned in the best individual finish by a Mustang, placing sixth in the 100-yard backstroke (50.54) on Saturday night.

Overall, SMU finished 17th out of 45 teams.

The Mustangs return to the pool on Jan. 3, 2015, when they take on the LSU Tigers at 1 p.m. CT in Rockwall, Texas.  The dual meet will feature both men’s and women’s swimming and diving.
