George McMillion Inducted Into Southwest Conference Hall Of Fame

DALLAS (SMU) - Former SMU swimming coach George McMillion, who spent 31 years coaching on the Hilltop, has been inducted into the Southwest Conference Hall of Fame. The nine-member 2014 SWC class is sponsored by the Texas Sports Hall of Fame.

McMillion began his coaching career at SMU as an assistant in 1957 and was promoted to head coach in 1971, a position in which he served in until 1988. Under his direction, the men's swimming program won eight consecutive SWC Championships and finished in the NCAA top 10 on 14 occasions. Four times he was named the conference Coach of the Year. McMillion also coached 78 student-athletes to All-America status and mentored 15 NCAA Champions and four Olympic medalists.

As a student-athlete, McMillion received All-America honors and served as his team's captain. He is also part of the Texas Swimming & Diving Hall of Fame.
