Tournament Draws

HOUSTON (SMU) - The SMU women's tennis team had both doubles pairs advance to the second round of the Cougar Invitational on Friday. Heavy rains then fell early in the afternoon, ending singles action early.

The duo of Hristina Dishkova and Holly Verner won a hard-fought 8-7 match against Brooke Hughes and Sasha Khadzhyan of St. Edward's. The win put Dishkova and Verner in the second round of the No. 1 doubles bracket.

Dasha Sharapova and Yana Erkeeva teamed up to advance to the second round of the No. 2 doubles bracket by defeating Francesca Chaher and Marissa Williams, also of St. Edward's, 8-1.

In singles, Dishkova, Erkeeva and Sharapova all led early in their matches before the rain arrived. Verner was on serve early in her first set.
