TOURNAMENT RESULTS
NORMAN, Okla. (SMU) – The SMU women’s tennis team finished up play at the Oklahoma Invitational on Sunday. Junior Vaszilisza Bulgakova and sophomores Mary Wright and Macie Elliott all competed for the Mustangs. Elliott recorded a win in consolation singles, while Bulgakova and Wright earned a victory in consolation doubles.
In the Stoops Consolation Draw, Elliott defeated Brittany Reed of Abilene Christian, 6-4, 6-1.
Bulgakova and Wright also competed in singles on Sunday, but both Mustangs lost their matches. Wright fell to Denver’s Charlotte Derbyshire in three sets in her consolation. Wright won the opening set, 6-2, before Derbyshire fought back to win the second, 6-4, and the third, 6-2. In the Boomer Consolation Draw, Bulgakova was ousted by Anastasiya Sheskatova of North Texas, 6-3, 6-1.
In doubles, Bulgakova and Wright teamed up to top Gracia Mboko and Sonja Radosevic of Denver, 8-4, in their consolation match. In the Red Consolation Draw, Elliott, playing with Abbi Melrose of Oklahoma, fell to Ana Sofia Cordero of North Texas and Alba Escalona Perny of Tulsa, 8-6.
Wright, a sophomore, played in her first collegiate matches as a Mustang and earned wins in both singles and doubles.
"We are thrilled to have Mary playing for us," said Head Coach Kati Gyulai. "Congratulations to her for starting her college career with a win in singles and doubles."
Next weekend, SMU will travel to Houston, Texas, for the Rice Invitational.
