Sept. 27, 2014 TOURNAMENT RESULTS
HOUSTON (SMU) - The SMU women's tennis team finished up the second day of play at the Rice Invitational on Saturday.
Sophomores Anna Kate Anderson and Macie Elliott advanced to the semifinals of the doubles draw before falling to Rice's Stephanie Nguyen and Lindsey Hodge, 8-3. In the quarterfinals, the duo topped Louisiana Tech's Alexandra Sramkova and Taylor Capannolo, 8-4.
Junior Vaszilisza Bulgakova and sophomore Mary Wright also competed in doubles. The pair dropped an 8-5 decicion to Maria Cardenas and Angela Lorenzo of Houston in the quarterfinals. However, they fought back to defeat Astrid Gehre and Christine Foote of UT Arlington, 8-7 (4).
In the Blue Singles Draw, Bulgakova defeated Augustina Serio of UT Arlington, 6-2, 6-3, in her consolation match. The junior will face Allison Ho of Rice in the consolation final.
In the Gray Draw, Wright also advanced to the consolation finals by defeating Jessica Birowski of UT Arlington, 7-6, 6-3. The sophomore will take on UT Arlington's Foote in the final.
Elliott also competed in consolation singles on Saturday, falling, 6-2, 6-2, to Jazmin Britos of Louisiana Tech.
The final day of play will start tomorrow at 9 a.m. CT.
