Sophomore Wright Ends Rice Invitational With Six Total Wins

TOURNAMENT RESULTS

HOUSTON (SMU) - The SMU women's tennis team wrapped up play at the Rice Invitational on Sunday.  With a win in both singles and doubles, sophomore Mary Wright concluded the Houston tournament with six total victories. 

In singles action, Wright recorded her third singles win of the tournament with a consolation victory over Christine Foote of UT Arlington, 7-5, 7-6 (3). 

In doubles, Wright and junior teammate Vaszilisza Bulgakova defeated UT Arlington's Verena Scott and Elizabeth Thoms, 8-6.  The win was the duo's third of the weekend.  

Sophomores Anna Kate Anderson and Macie Elliott also competed in doubles on Sunday, dropping a consolation match to Rice's Allison Ho and Lindsey Hodge, 8-7 (2). 

Anderson, Bulgakova and Elliott all competed in consolation singles for the Mustangs on Sunday.  Elliott topped Louisiana Tech's Haley Ballinger, 6-4, 7-5, while Anderson dropped a 6-1, 6-0 decision to Alexandra Sramkova of Louisiana Tech and Bulgakova lost by default to Ho of Rice. 

Next weekend, the Mustangs head to Waco, Texas, for the Baylor Invitational.  The three-day event will begin on Friday, Oct. 3, and conclude on Sunday, Oct. 5.
