DALLAS (SMU) - The SMU Mustangs held a seven-point lead at halftime over the Houston Cougars, but ultimately the Mustangs could not maintain the advantage, falling 63-45 at Moody Coliseum on Saturday afternoon.
Alicia Froling led SMU (4-10, 0-3 The American) in scoring with 13 points and also collected seven rebounds, while Destynee Hives-McCray led SMU with 11 boards and Keely Froling snagged 10.
SMU led 27-20 at halftime and held the Cougars (6-8, 1-2) to just 25.6 percent from the field. The Mustangs' largest lead was an 11-point edge with 4:15 to go in the first half after Keely Froling hit a jumper on the fast break. SMU scored the first points of the game and led from that point on until the 11:40 mark of the second half, when Houston's Mariah Mitchell tied the game with a jumper.
Houston ended the game on a 34-7 run over the last 15:31. The Cougars had a much improved shooting performance in the second half, connecting on 60.7 percent of their shots to close the game.
SMU will host No. 2 Connecticut on Jan. 11 at 2 p.m. The game marks the second meeting between the teams in 15 days.

-Alicia Froling led SMU in scoring for the third time this season. Froling has now scored in double-digits 12 times this season.
-Hives-McCray tallied a team-leading 11 rebounds, recording double-digit rebounds for the sixth time this season.
