BLYTHEWOOD, S.C. - Emma Roberts and Jaclyn White won their respective head-to-head matchups but the SMU equestrian team suffered a 13-2 setback at No. 3 South Carolina at One Wood Farm on Saturday. The meet concludes a two-day SEC trip for the Mustangs (4-5), who fell at No. 4 Auburn on Friday.
South Carolina won the hunt seat 7-1 with Roberts scoring the lone point in equitation over fences. She defeated Amber Henter, 79-78, for her fifth win in the discipline this season. The Mustangs had two ties in the hunt seat. Sylvia de Toledo scored an 85 to match Samantha Kraus in over fences while Schaefer Raposa tied Alexa Anthony in equitation on the flat with an 81.
White had the SMU western point in horsemanship. She won 69-66.5 over Lindsey Slack for her fourth win this year. The Mustangs had three ties in western as well. In horsemanship, Kristen Schramm tied Courtney Allen (69.5) while Morgan Redwine matched Abigail Pait (71.5). In reining, White and Paisley Roberts scored 65.5 for a draw.
SMU will have a brief break before its next competition. The Mustangs travel to TCU on Friday, Feb. 6. The meet is the fourth straight on the road for the Ponies. SMU follows with its first home meet of the spring when hosting South Dakota State at the Sleepy P Ranch on Saturday, March 1.
NOTE:
The meet at South Carolina was the first trip back to Blythewood for SMU head coach Carol Gwin. Prior to SMU, Gwin was an assistant for the Gamecocks for four seasons. During that time, South Carolina won back-to-back SEC Championships.
