Oct 29 | Cross Country
DALLAS (SMU) - The SMU women's cross country team will head to Grimesland, North Carolina to run at the American Athletic Conference Championship at Lake Kristi on Saturday at 10:50 ET/9:50 CT. The 6K women's race will take place after the men's race and will be streamed live on the American Digital Network.
The Mustangs will go into the meet as the highest regionally ranked team in the field as the 3rd ranked team in the USTFCCCA South Central Region. Last year's AAC champion, Tulsa, is 7th in the Midwest region and UConn is 11th in the Northeast Region.
SMU last ran at the Wisconsin Adidas Invitational two weeks ago, which was also a 6K race and was the only meet where they competed against an AAC opponent this season in Tulsa. Senior Shanoah Souza was the team's best finisher in their last two meets, finishing with a 20:52.0 at Wisconsin and a 5K time of 17:20.1 at Notre Dame.
Senior Karoline Skatteboe has been another top performer for the Mustangs as her win at the Gerald Richey Invitational at UTA earlier this season was the best individual finish for any SMU runner all season. Souza, Holly Archer, Anneke Grogan, Rakel Barrientos, Justine Anthony and Cassidy Webber all have top ten finishes in meets this season.
The rest of the AAC Championship field includes UCF, Cincinnati, East Carolina, Houston, Memphis, USF, Temple, and Tulane.
