The No. 25 SMU Mustangs (3-0) host Brown (1-4) on Sunday afternoon at Moody Coliseum at 2 p.m. This is the first week the Mustangs are in the top 25 this season after spending nine weeks ranked in 2014-15. SMU improved to 3-0 with a 71-69 home win against Yale, who was receiving votes, on Sunday. SMU is 2-0 at home this season and is 36-3 at home since the start of the 2013-14 season.
SMU is averaging 80.3 points while shooting 56.0 percent (2nd NCAA) with five Mustangs averaging more than 10 points (Nic Moore 12.0, Ben Moore 11.3, Jordan Tolbert 11.3, Keith Frazier 11.0, Markus Kennedy 11.0). Seven different players have scored in double figures with at least four double-digit scorers in each game. In the win versus Yale, SMU had five in double figures.
The Mustangs are tied for 25th this week in the AP Top 25. SMU was receiving votes in the first two polls before getting ranked this week. Last season, SMU spent nine weeks in the AP and USA Today Top 25, finishing No. 18 in the AP and receiving votes in the USA Today Coaches Poll.
SMU entered the season following a 27-7 campaign that included winning the American Athletic Conference regular season and tournament championships en route to reaching the NCAA Tournament. SMU has won 27 games in back-to-back seasons and has a 57-17 mark since the start of the 2013-14 season.
SMU was picked to repeat as American Athletic Conference champions in the AAC preseason coaches' poll. Nic Moore was tabbed to repeat as AAC Player of the Year, while he and Markus Kennedy were unanimously selected to the preseason All-AAC first team. Moore was also named to the Wooden Award Preseason Top 50 for the second straight season while Kennedy was named to the 2016 Karl Malone Award Watch List.
Last season, SMU finished first or second in The American in 11 statistical categories. The Mustangs led the AAC in scoring offense (69.1), scoring margin (9.4, 20th NCAA), FG% (.475, 26th NCAA), FG% defense (.381, 5th NCAA), 3FG% (.363), rebound margin (6.7, 17th NCAA) and assists (15.4, 24th NCAA). SMU finished second in the league in scoring defense (59.8, 20th NCAA), FT% (.703), steals (7.0) and assist-to-turnover ratio (1.23).
Last season, SMU set home attendance records for a season (124,986) and average (6,944) while going 16-2 in Moody Coliseum. The individual accolades included Nic Moore being named AP All-America Honorable Mention, AAC Player of the Year, First-Team All-AAC, NABC First-Team All-District and AAC All-Championship Team. Markus Kennedy was the AAC Sixth Man of the Year, Most Outstanding Player of The American Championship, All-AAC Second Team and NABC All-District Second Team. Yanick Moreira was named the AAC's Most Improved Player as well as AAC All-Championship Team, All-AAC Second Team and NABC All-District Second Team. Five Mustangs earned three conference player of the week awards and 13 weekly honor roll selections; Nic Moore (POTW, 8x HR), Kennedy (POTW, 3x HR), Moreira (POTW), Ben Moore (HR) and Keith Frazier (HR).
UP NEXT: SMU plays at crosstown rival TCU on Wednesday, Dec. 2 (7 p.m.). The game is at Wilkerson-Greines Athletic Center in Fort Worth. The Mustangs then begin a four-game homestand by hosting New Hampshire on Saturday, Dec. 5 at 12:30 p.m. The homestand includes Michigan on Dec. 8 and the first two games of the Continental Tire Las Vegas Classic (Nicholls State Dec. 16, Hampton Dec. 17).
LAST GAME (W, 71-69 vs [rv/-] Yale on Nov. 22): DALLAS (AP) - Jordan Tolbert scored five of his 17 points in the final three minutes, Markus Kennedy had 12 points and 13 rebounds, and SMU held off Yale 71-69 on Sunday. Tolbert's dunk with 1:08 left extended SMU's lead to 68-61, but Yale scored the next five for a one-possession game. SMU's Keith Frazier made two free throws with 9 seconds left, but Justin Sears answered with a 3-pointer to pull Yale to 70-69 with 2 seconds left. Tolbert made the first of two free throws and Yale didn't get off a final shot. Frazier scored 12 points, and Nic Moore and Sterling Brown added 11 apiece for SMU (3-0). The Mustangs made 28 of 56 field goals. Makai Mason led Yale (3-1) with 24 points and seven assists. Mason and Jack Montague made three 3-pointers apiece as the Bulldogs hit nine from distance. Sears finished with 15 points.
THE SERIES VS. BROWN (1-0): SMU is 1-0 all-time against Brown. The Mustangs won the first matchup 60-56 in overtime at Moody Coliseum on Jan. 6, 2007.
PREVIOUS MEETING VS. BROWN (W, 60-56 OT vs. Brown on Jan. 6, 2007): DALLAS (AP) -- Donatas Rackauskas hit a 3-pointer with six seconds remaining in overtime to help SMU seal a 60-56 victory over Brown. Brown's Marcus Becker scored with 37 seconds left in overtime to bring the Bears to within a point at 57-56. But Rackauskas' 3-pointer sealed the win for the Mustangs. Devon Pearson led SMU with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Ike Ofoegbu and Jon Killen had 10 points each. Ofoegbu led the team with 11 rebounds.
Markus Kennedy NAMED TO KARL MALONE WATCH LIST: Markus Kennedy was one of 20 players named to the 2016 Karl Malone Award Watch List, the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame announced on Oct. 13. The accolade recognizes the top power forward in Division I men's college basketball. In mid-February, the watch list will be narrowed to the top 10. In March, five finalists will be selected. The winner will be announced on Friday, April 8.
Nic Moore NAMED TO WOODEN AWARD PRESEASON TOP 50: Nic Moore was named to the John R. Wooden Award Preseason Top 50 on Nov. 17. It is the second straight season Moore has been on the preseason list. The accolade is for college basketball's top player. A midseason list of 25 will be selected in early January followed by the top 20 in early February. Fifteen players will be submitted to the voters in March. The Wooden Award All-American Team will be announced the week of the "Elite Eight" and the winner on April 8.
ASSOCIATE HEAD COACH Tim Jankovich: Tim Jankovich is in his 33rd season as a collegiate coach, and his fourth season as associate head coach at SMU where he has helped SMU to a 72-34 mark. The Mustangs have won 27 games in each of the past two seasons, going 27-7 in 2014-15 while claiming The American regular season and tournament titles en route to the NCAA Tournament. This is the 10th season he has served as the leader of a Division I program, including five as head coach at Illinois State (2007-12) and four at North Texas (1993-97). As a head coach, he is 160-121 (.569) [3-0 at SMU]. That includes a 104-64 at ISU where his teams recorded four top-three finishes in the Missouri Valley, reached the conference tournament final three times and earned four NIT bids. As an assistant or head coach, his teams are 628-375 (.626) with six regular season conference championships, four league tournament titles, nine NCAA Tournament appearances and eight NIT bids.

57 WINS IN 2+ SEASONS: SMU has won 57 games (57-17) since the start of the 2013-14 season. MOORE GOLDEN: In the summer of 2015, Nic Moore helped Team USA to the gold medal at the World University Games in Gwangju, South Korea (July 3-14). Bill Self (Kansas) coached the USA with a mostly Kansas roster (10 of 12 players). Moore started all eight games of the tournament, averaging 6.8 points, 2.5 assists, 3.0 rebounds and 1.9 steals in 27.5 minutes. In the gold-medal game against Germany, he played a tournament-high 47 minutes with 7 points, 6 rebounds, 3 steals and 2 assists in a 2OT 84-77 victory. Moore had a steal and 2 FTs to give the USA an 80-77 lead with a minute left in the 2nd OT.
INTERNATIONAL EXPERIENCE FOR THE MUSTANGS: In addition to Nic Moore winning a gold medal with Team USA at the World University Games, seven other Mustangs earned international experience. Ben Moore, Sterling Brown, Semi Ojeleye and Ben Emelogu II played for U.S. teams in the Global Sports Academy Goodwill Tour. The tour was August 6-14 with games in Belgium, England, Germany and the Netherlands. Jay Duncan, SMU's Director of Operations, was the head coach for the roster that included Ojeleye and Emelogu. Both teams went 5-0. It was the second straight summer Moore and Brown played together on the GSA tour. Jordan Tolbert and Keith Frazier played for USA East Coast on a tour of games in France and Italy. The three-game trip included matchups with the Chinese and Nigerian national teams.
MAY I ASSIST YOU: SMU is averging 18.7 assists, which is 4th in the AAC (56 assists on 93 FGs). Last season, SMU led The American with 15.4 assists per game (24th NCAA). SMU had 20 or more assists in five games, including a season-high 24 against Houston (Jan. 24).

TROPHY CASE: In SMU's three seasons under Larry Brown, the Mustangs have added three items to the trophy case. SMU won the 2015 American Athletic Conference regular season and tournament titlles. In 2014, SMU earned a No. 1 seed in the NIT, eventually reaching the championship game.
ROAD WARRIORS: The Mustangs have won 9 of its last 10 road games. SMU was 9-4 on the road in 2014-15, which was the second most road wins in school history (record is 10 in 1955-56). The Mustangs won seven straight road games before the 81-73 loss at Connecticut (March 1). That was the longest streak since a program record of eight in 1955-56.
