Rangelova, Volchkov Compete At European Short Course Championships

NETANYA, Israel (SMU) - Mustangs Nina Rangelova and Anna Volchkov wrapped up competition at the 18th European Short Course Swimming Championships in Netanya, Israel, on Sunday. The competition was held at the Wingate Institute, Dec. 2-6, and was hosted by the Israel Swimming Association.
In a homecoming for Volchkov, the Yoqneam Illit native swam in preliminary heats of both the 100- and 200-meter backstrokes. In the 100 distance, Volchkov finished seventh in her heat at 1:02.14, and in the 200 she clocked a 2:13.52 for ninth.
Swimming alum Rangelova earned herself a spot in the 200-meter freestyle finals after placing third in her preliminary heat with a 1:56.65. She improved her time in finals to 1:56.54 to finish eighth overall. The Plovdiv, Bulgaria, native also reached the semifinals of the 100 free, finishing eighth in her race, and competed in prelim action of the 50 free.
The Mustangs went 3-1 in dual action during the 2015 portion of the schedule, and are back in action on Jan. 9 at Texas A&M.
