DALLAS (SMU) -The SMU women's tennis team notched two wins on Sunday afternoon at the Ann and Brad Brookshire Family Pavilion, pushing its record to a perfect 5-0 this season.

The Mustangs shut out Northwestern State (1-4), 6-0, in their first match of the day, before defeating Midwestern State (1-1), 5-2.

Against Northwestern State, SMU earned the doubles point with wins in No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. In the No. 1 slot, Vaszilisza Bulgakova and Dasha Sharapova topped Natalya Krutova and Tatiana Larina, 6-1. Hristina Dishkova and Holly Verner then clinched the point in No. 2 doubles, beating Polina Ivanova and Barbora Kollarova, 6-1.

In singles, Bulgakova extended the SMU lead to 2-0 after Ladutska retired in the second set in the No. 4 slot. Verner then defeated Kerr in straight sets in No. 6 singles, 6-1, 6-0, before Dishkova clinched the match for SMU with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Larina in the No. 1 match.

Anderson and Sharapova also added singles wins for the Mustangs, as Anderson topped Krutova in the No. 2 slot, 6-3, 6-1, and Sharapova bested Kollarova, 6-2, 6-3, in No. 3 singles.

The Mustangs also opened the Midwestern State match by winning the doubles point. Dishkova and Verner defeated Courtney Anderson and Lauren Pineda, 6-1, in the No. 2 slot, before Anderson and Wright clinched the point with a 6-3 victory over Paige Boykin and Madeline Schorlemmer in No. 3 doubles.

Bulgakova and Sharapova also won in doubles, topping Kayla Casey and Taylor Coffman, 6-4, in the No. 1 slot.

Bulgakova earned the first singles point, topping Lindsay Nochowicz in the No. 4 match, 6-1, 6-0.

Midwestern State then fought back to tie the match at 2-2, as Coffman defeated Sharapova, 6-1, 6-4, in No. 3 singles and Schorlemmer bested Anderson, 6-3, 6-2, in the No. 2 slot.

Dishkova put the Mustangs within a point of clinching, winning the No. 1 match over Kayla Casey, 6-4, 6-4.

In a dramatic second-set tiebreaker, Verner clinched the match for SMU, defeating Carrie Casey, 6-0, 7-6 (3). Mary Wright also added a singles point, defeating Boykin in three sets in the No. 5 match.

The Mustangs open conference play next weekend with a pair of home matches. SMU takes on UCF on Saturday at 12 p.m. CT, before playing No. 59 USF on Sunday at 12 p.m. CT. Both matches will be played at the SMU Tennis Complex. Admission is free.
