SMU at TCU

FORT WORTH - SMU held a 5-4 lead at the midpoint of its meet with No. 2 TCU, but the eighth-ranked Mustang equestrian team would eventually fall, 11-7, to its crosstown rival on Friday.
The day began at 10 a.m. with the hunt seat, which was held at Turn Point Ranch. SMU (4-6) won over fences 3-2 and was an even 2-2-1 on the flat.
In over fences, Sylvia de Toledo had the largest margin of victory in an 83-79 victory over Jordan Appel. Her score of 83 ties her second highest in the discipline this year. de Toledo is now 6-3-1 head-to-head. Schaefer Raposa and Leina King earned the two other SMU points. Raposa, with her sixth win, defeated Nikki Diamantis 81-79 while King handled Jayme Omand 77-74.
Alex Butterworth and Greer Hindle earned their first points this spring in their respective on the flat victories. Butterworth scored a 75 to beat Molly Peddicord's 73. Hindle had the highest SMU score (78) to defeat Diamantis. The tie came from Emma Roberts and Kaitlin Perry who each scored 77.
TCU rallied in the 6:30 p.m. nightcap by winning the western, 7-2. This half of the meet was held at John Justin Arena as a part of the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo.
SMU earned a single point in both reining and horsemanship. Jaclyn White scored a 69.5 to top Katie Gray's 66.5 for her fourth reining win of the season. In horsemanship, Hannah McCain defeated Erin Gillette 67-66 on the last ride of the night.
The Mustangs next compete on March 1. SMU will host South Dakota State at the Sleepy P Ranch at 10 a.m. CT.
NOTE:
de Toledo was named Most Outstanding Performer for her 83 in equitation over fences. It is her second MOP in the discipline this season.
