March 10, 2015

Results

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Devin Burnett placed seventh out of 29 divers in the three-meter springboard, earning his second bid to the NCAA Championship, on Tuesday night at the NCAA Zone D Diving Championship held at the University of Iowa's Campus Recreation and Wellness Center Natatorium.

With a qualifying performance last night in the one-meter, Burnett needed just a top-12 finish Tuesday to qualify in the three-meter. The senior from Plano placed seventh in the three-meter with a cumulative two-round score of 770.40.

While the top six finishers in the three-meter automatically received a bid to the NCAAs, any diver that has received a prior bid can optionally enter any other event at the NCAA Championship, as long as they finished in the top 12 at the zone meet.

The NCAA Championship will take place March 26-28 at the same venue in Iowa City.

Senior Hayden Hodges and freshman David Bunn also competed for the Mustangs. Hodges was one spot away from qualifying for the finals, finishing 19th in the preliminary round (316.00). The top 18 divers advanced to the finals. Bunn placed 25th in prelims (290.10).

The Zone Diving Championship concludes tomorrow with the platform dive. The top seven finishers in the platform earn automatic bids to nationals, while Burnett can earn a bid with another top-12 performance.
