LAS VEGAS, Nev. (SMU) - The SMU Mustangs carded a team score of 282 (6-under par) in the final round at the Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters on Wednesday, moving them up to a tie for 10th with tournament-host UNLV on the final leaderboard.

SMU posted the fifth-best team score in the final round, led by junior Bryson Dechambeau's 6-under 66. DeChambeau birdied four of his final five holes and was bogey-free on the day. DeChambeau's stellar final round moved him 36 positions up on the individual leaderboard, tying him for 18th overall at 2-under par.

Fellow junior Austin Smotherman shot a 2-under 70 for the second straight day, and his 4-under tournament score placed him 10th overall. The result is Smotherman's seventh career top-10 finish and third this season.

Junior Ryan Burgess had another strong round on day three, shooting an even-par 72. After carding a 78 in the first round, Burgess went 1-under over the final two days to come home at 5-over for the tournament. Sophomore Andrew Buchanan gave SMU its final counting score on Wednesday with a 2-over 74.

"I'm very happy with our play the last two days," SMU head coach Jason Enloe said. "Everyone showed resiliency by bouncing back after a bad first day. (Assistant coach) Chris Parra did a great job coaching Austin to a solid finish and Bryson looked more like himself today. It's great to have Ryan Burgess back and his game looks good and will only get better with time."

SMU shot under par as a team in each of the final two rounds, helping it jump past Georgia, defending national champion Alabama, Texas A&M and TCU on the scoreboard. No. 7 Texas won the tournament, with No. 24 Oklahoma, No. 13 Arizona State, No. 22 Oklahoma State and No. 11 UCLA rounding out the top five. Alabama's Robby Shelton took the individual crown by six strokes, shooting 15-under for the event.

The Mustangs will head back to the pacific time zone for The Goodwin hosted by Stanford on March 27. The three-day tournament will conclude on March 29.

"We are looking forward to two weeks of practice and then having a high finish at Stanford," Enloe said.
