IOWA CITY, Iowa -- With a 15th-place finish in the three-meter diving competition, senior Devin Burnett earned Honorable Mention All-American honors on Friday afternoon at the NCAA Championship at the University of Iowa's Campus Recreation & Wellness Center.
"Devin qualified in 16th place and then moved up to 15th in the consolation final event," said head diving coach Jim Stillson. "I am very pleased with Devin's consistent performance in what was one of the best competitions I can remember."
Burnett finished 16th out of 46 divers in the preliminary round with a score of 378.00. The top eight divers advanced to the finals and divers 9-16 advanced to the consolation finals. The Plano native then placed seventh in the consolation finals (374.30), giving him an overall finish of 15th and All-American honors.
Burnett is SMU's first All-American diver since Matthew Culbertson in 2009.
Yesterday, Burnett finished 27th in the one-meter competition with a score of 327.25.
The NCAA Diving Championship concludes tomorrow with the platform. Prelims begin at 1:45 p.m. with finals at 7 p.m.
"We are looking forward to tomorrow's platform event," said Stillson.
