IOWA CITY, Iowa -- A day after earning All-American honors in the three-meter, senior diver Devin Burnett placed 21st in the platform competition at the NCAA Championship at the University of Iowa's Campus Recreation & Wellness Center.
"Devin was a little off today as the contest started but finished very strong, almost qualifying for the consolation finals," said head diving coach Jim Stillson. "I was very pleased with his overall performance today."
The Plano native finished 21st out of 43 divers with a six-dive score of 341.85. The top eight divers advanced to the finals and divers 9-16 qualified for the consolation finals.
Yesterday, Burnett finished 15th in the platform, earning him Honorable Mention All-American honors. On Thursday, he placed 27th in the one-meter.
Burnett is SMU's first All-American diver since Matthew Culbertson in 2009.
"This NCAA Championship was very successful for us," said Stillson. "I am very proud of Devin and his performance."
