NCEA Championship Begins On Thursday In Waco

DALLAS -- The SMU equestrian team makes its fourth consecutive trip to the National Collegiate Equestrian Association Championship on Thursday with an opening matchup against Kansas State. The three-day national championship starts at 8:30 a.m. CT at the Extraco Events Center in Waco.
SMU
The Mustangs finished the regular season with a 7-7 record. SMU was 3-0 at home and 1-5 on the road. However, the Ponies were 3-2 in neutral site contests. SMU defeated four ranked opponents, including an upset of defending national champion and top ranked Georgia. The Mustangs have won three of its last four meets, the only loss coming in the United Conference Championship against Fresno State in Fresno.
Kansas State
The Wildcats are winners in three of their last four meets. Kansas State began the season on a five meet winning streak at home. However, Kansas State then dropped seven straight on the road. KSU holds a 1-3 mark in neutral site contests. Like SMU, the Wildcats fell in their conference championship. Kansas State has victories over five of the 12 teams in the NCEA bracket with wins over New Mexico State, South Carolina, Oklahoma State, TCU and Baylor.
NCEA Championship
SMU is making its fourth straight appearance at the NCEA Championship, tying the longest stretch in program history (2004-07). In each of the last three seasons, the Mustangs won its opening round contest but fell in the second round. As the higher seed, SMU is 2-0 at nationals. This is the first meeting between the Mustangs and Kansas State in the postseason.
