PALM COAST, Fla. -- Junior Alexandra Rossi made five birdies to be in a tie for second place amongst individuals after the first day of the American Athletic Conference Championship at the Hammock Beach Resort and Golf Club on Sunday. As a team, the Mustangs finished 11-over and are tied for sixth place.
Rossi carded a round of 70 and began her day with back-to-back birdies. She was three-under through six holes but a pair of bogeys had her one-under after the front nine. The Austin, Texas, native was four-under on par-5's, the best on day one. She is tied with UCF's Monifa Sealy (-2) and they both trail USF's Ashley Burke (-5) by three strokes.
Defending individual medalist Jenny Haglund is also in the top 10 of the leaderboard. She was two-over for a round of 74. She is one of nine players tied for 10th.
Lindsey McCurdy carded a round of 76 to be four-over and is tied for 26th. The sophomore is one of 10 players to be under-par on par-3's as she was one-under.
Senior Jennifer Park was SMU's fourth score in the team total. She carded a round of 79. Also competing was Evelyn Dole who turned in a score of 83.
UCF leads the nine team tournament at three-over. They hold a one stroke lead on East Carolina (+4).
SMU will be in the first groups that tee off on Monday. They begin at 8 a.m. ET/7 a.m. CT.
