The SMU women's golf team, in association with the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) and the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA), are participating in the Folds of Honor Military Tribute Program by recognizing SMU student and U.S. Army veteran Sergeant Jason Owens in the spring semester.
The Mustangs will carry a special golf bag with Sgt. Owens' named stitched on the side for the rest of the semester. SMU will rotate who will carry the bag for each event. At the end of the season, the bag will be auctioned off with proceeds going towards the Folds of Honor organization.
Folds of Honor is a charitable organization which provides educational scholarships and other assistance for the children and spouses of military servicemen and women. The program has awarded nearly 5,500 educational scholarships.
Head Coach Jeanne Sutherland
Jeanne Sutherland enters her fourth season on the Hilltop in 2014-15. Under Sutherland's instruction, the Mustangs have qualified for the NCAA Regionals each of the last two years. In the programs' inaugural season in the American Athletic Conference, Sutherland coached the individual winner (Jenny Haglund) while coaching the team to a third place-finish.
