DALLAS -- The SMU women's track & field team looks to repeat as outdoor conference champions this weekend at the American Athletic Conference Outdoor Championship in Storrs, Connecticut. The Mustangs took home the title last year in The American's inaugural season.
The championship, hosted by the University of Connecticut, begins on Thursday with the heptathlon, 10,000-meter run and hammer throw. The meet ends early Sunday afternoon with the 4x400 relay, followed by an award ceremony for the winning teams. A full schedule of events can be found on The American's Championship Central page.
Live video of the entire championship will be provided by The American Digital Network and live results can be found on The American's website.
SMU will send a roster of 16 student-athletes to Connecticut. Stephanie Kalu (100-meter), Agnes Sjostrom (5,000-meter), Rayann Chin (discus) and Lucija Cvitanovic (javelin & heptathlon) all look to repeat as individual gold medalists.
Distance (6): Holly Archer, Caitlin Keen, Agnes Sjostrom, Karoline Skatteboe, Shanoah Souza, Claire Trotter,

Based on marks from this season's outdoor meets, Stephanie Kalu, Caitlin Keen and Karoline Skatteboe all enter the weekend as individual favorites. Kalu owns the conference's top 100-meter time (11.34), Keen ranks first in the 10,000-meter (35:01.24) and Skatteboe ranks first in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (10:27.64). Agnes Sjostrom and Shanoah Souza, who rank second and third respectively in Steeplechase, will look to give SMU a sweep in that event.
In field events, Isabella Marten (triple jump), Tochi Nlemchi (shot put), Rayann Chin (discus) and Lucija Cvitanovic (javelin) should all challenge for gold medals, as all four rank second in their respective events.
Head coach Dave Wollman, in his 27th season on the Hilltop, seeks his third conference title. Last year, Wollman and his staff were named Coaching Staff of the Year at the outdoor championship.
Host UConn, UCF and Memphis top the rest of the field. Connecticut won the 2015 indoor conference championship, with UCF finishing second, while Memphis, ranked 39th in the latest USTFCCCA poll, is the highest-ranked team in the conference.
