ST.GEOGRE, Utah --
The SMU women's golf team is in a three-way tie for seventh place with Wisconsin and New Mexico State after Friday's second round of the NCAA St. George Regional at Entrada at Snow Canyon Country Club. The Mustangs have to place in the top six to advance to the NCAA Championship in Bradenton, Florida.

"The team showed a lot of fight today," head coach Jeanne Sutherland said. "We wanted to see everyone bounce back from the first day. We are in a position to make it into the top six if we play solid golf tomorrow."

SMU turned in a team score of 303 on Friday to have 611 strokes (43-over) for the event. The top six entering the final round are USC (17-over), Stanford (28-over), Cal (34-over), Arkansas (34-over), Virginia (36-over) and UNLV (37-over).

For the second straight day, the Mustangs were members of the first groups to tee off. SMU began on the first hole and played with Arkansas and Virginia.

Junior Jenny Haglund was par or better on 15 holes to card 1-over 72. She tied for the fourth-lowest round amongst all individuals. Overall, Haglund is tied for sixth (5-over) entering the final day.

Alexandra Rossi had 14 pars in her round to card a 4-over 75. She is 37th on the leaderboard at 12-over.

Lindsey McCurdy, Jennifer Park and Evelyn Dole carded scores of 78 (7-over) in their respective rounds.

McCurdy (24th) remains in the top 25 as she is 9-over through 36-holes. Park had a three stroke improvement from the first day and is 17-over for the event. Dole was even-par on the back nine to have had the biggest SMU improvement (six strokes) from Thursday.

"My goal tomorrow is for the team to have the courage to execute," Sutherland said. "Not to be cliché but no one else matters tomorrow, just us and the course. I want us to play with some freedom. Tomorrow is the biggest day and I hope our players appreciate and love how special this experience is."

SMU is paired with Wisconsin and New Mexico State on Saturday. The Mustangs open on the first hole at 9 a.m. CT/8 a.m. MDT.
