DALLAS (SMU) - The U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) released their Cross Country Preseason Regional Poll yesterday with the SMU Mustangs ranking third in the South Central Region behind only the University of Arkansas and the University of Texas.
SMU is the highest ranking American Athletic Conference team in their respective Regional rankings with Tulsa ranked fifth in the Midwest Region, Temple ranked 12th in the Mid-Atlantic Region, UConn ranked 13th in the Northeast Region, and UCF ranked 14th in the South Region.
Despite their Regional Ranking, the Mustangs came up about seven spots shy of being in the top 30 Nationally. SMU received 14 votes, once again right behind Texas, the second ranked team in the South Central Region.
The next set of ratings will be released in two weeks on Sept. 15 after the Mustangs will have run at two meets. SMU is running tonight at the Bear Twilight Invitational, a 4K race that will start at 7 p.m. CT at the Heart of Texas Soccer Complex.
