Mustangs Ranked Ninth In NCEA Preseason Poll

DALLAS (SMU) – The SMU equestrian team is ninth in the NCEA Preseason Rankings after finishing eighth in the final poll last season. The Mustangs begin the season with an exhibition match against No. 3 Baylor in Waco, Texas, Saturday.
"We are very pleased to have made the top ten in the NCEA Preseason poll," head coach Carol Gwin stated. "I think we have the talent to make a steady rise into the top five if the team can come together and work hard. This is one of our team goals as well, and I feel like we are off to a great start in our first few weeks of practices."
SMU competes against eight of the other nine teams ranked in the preseason top 10, including home meets against No. 2 South Carolina, No. 4 Auburn and No. 8 TCU in the regular-season opener on Sept. 24. The Mustangs wrap up the fall schedule at home against No. 3 Baylor, and No. 5 Fresno State is slated for the first match of the spring on Feb. 2 at Sleepy P Ranch.
The Mustangs started the season 10th in the preseason rankings a year ago, and went into the National Championships as the eighth seed before falling to Kansas State. SMU went 7-8 overall last season, going undefeated at home.
