Raposa Earns NCEA Rider Of The Month Honor

DALLAS (SMU/NCEA) -- Schaefer Raposa was named the National Collegiate Equestrian Association (NCEA) Equitation Over Fences Rider of the Month for September, announced the NCEA on Monday. Raposa managed a 2-0 record over fences in the month of September, both coming against nationally-ranked teams.
The Clinton, New York-native was distinguished as Most Outstanding Performer (MOP) in both of her head-to-head wins, claiming an impressive 92-78 victory over No. 8 TCU's Kari Hancock and a 79-75 win over Amy White, of No. 6 Oklahoma State. Raposa has three MOP honors on the year (two over fences, one on flats) which brings her to a 10 over the span of her career.
The senior also made SMU equestrian history in September, becoming the second SMU rider to win both the Equitation Over Fences and Equitation on Flats MOP honors in the same meet.
The last SMU rider to earn an NCEA Rider of the Month honor was fellow senior, Alex Butterworth, who won the honor for the month of October in 2012.
The SMU equestrian team will hit the road to open the conference season in Las Cruces, New Mexico to square off against the New Mexico State Aggies. The Mustangs will enter ranked No. 10 on the NCEA National Poll, while the Aggies will move up to No. 9. The meet is scheduled for Oct. 3 at the New Mexico State Equestrian Center and slated for at 11 CT/10MT.
