SAN ANTONIO (SMU) – Senior
Lindsey McCurdy led the SMU women's golf team carding 2-under 70 to place her in a four-way tie for fifth after round one at the Maryb S. Kauth Invitational hosted by UTSA at the Briggs Ranch Golf Club in San Antonio. As a team, the No. 21 Mustangs are tied for eighth at 6-over 294.
McCurdy went 2-under on the front nine to open the event, including birdies on holes one, four and eight, before finishing the first 18 at even par on the back nine. The performance is the fifth round of par or better for the senior this season and her five birdies tie her for the second-most at the event after round one.
Sophomore
Brigitte Dunne is in the top 25 of the 75-player field, in a five-way tie for 25th, after posting four birdies en route to a 2-over 74 in the first round. Dunne started the day 3-over, but went on to post a 1-under to close the day.
Senior
Katie Page and freshman
Kenzie Wright are part of a tie for 30th after finishing 3-over 75, and
Alex Celli (+5, 77) is tied for 54th. Freshman
Ana Paula Ramirez also made the trip and is competing as an individual. She is currently 4-over 76 and tied for 44th.
Mississippi State leads the field at 4-under 284, just one stroke ahead of No. 23 Tennessee. No. 9 Arkansas rounds out the top three at even-par 288. American Athletic Conference teams in the field include Tulane (+6, T8th) and Houston (+11, 11th). Alana Uriell of Arkansas leads the field at 7-under 65.
The Mustangs return to action for round two of the Maryb S. Kauth Invitational Monday. SMU is paired with Kansas State and Tulane, and tees off at 8:30 a.m. CT on No. 1. Ramirez will begin her day at 9:34 a.m. on No. 10. Visit Golfstatresults.com for tournament information.
