PALOS VERDES ESTATES, Calif. (SMU) – SMU women's golf finished in eighth place after three rounds of action at the Therese Hession Regional Challenge.

"Tough way to finish today, but we'll learn from it," said fifth-year head coach Lauren Mason. "Looking forward to a couple weeks off to take care of business and put in some focused work. We've got a competitive spring schedule ahead, and I'm excited for what's to come this season and know our best days are ahead of us."
 
After two days of play, the Mustangs sat in a tie for fifth place. On the third and final day, the team moved into eighth place after shooting nine-over par. The tournament featured 12 top 50 teams with the Mustangs finishing ahead of four of them including No. 9 Pepperdine and No. 13 Arizona State. Every team in front of the Mustangs was ranked in the top 23.
 
In her first appearance as a Mustang, Kirra St-Laurent led the team with a 23^rd-place finish. On the final day, St-Laurent pulled off an incredible eagle on the par four, 405 yard 14^th hole. The freshman was four-under during a four hole stretch that included the eagle. St-Laurent moved up nine spots on the day three leaderboard.
 
Emily Odwin finished in a tie for 27^th. She carded a 69 during the middle round to highlight her week. On the final day, Odwin posted a 75.
 
Celine Chen finished third among the Mustangs with a 32^nd place finish.  She carded a 73 on the final day  to maintain her standing on the leaderboard. She shot a 33 on the par 36 back nine with three birdies and no bogeys.
 
Mackenzie Lee recorded a 43^rd place finish. She shot a 74 on Tuesday to finish at nine-over par for the tournament.  Yoonjeong Huh shot a 69 on Monday, her best score as a Mustang. She finished alone in 75^th.
 
Next up, the Mustangs travel to Houston for the Chevron Collegiate hosted by the University of Houston. The tournament runs Feb. 23-24 from Golf Club of Houston.
