SMU (10-3) opens American Athletic Conference play at Memphis (9-3) on Tuesday at 8 p.m. The Mustangs enter league play on a six-game winning streak after back-to-back victories against Stanford (72-49 on Dec. 19) and Albany (71-53 on Dec. 20). The Mustangs are 28-8 in The American the past two seasons, winning the 2014-15 title at 15-3 before finishing second last season at 13-5.

Four Mustangs average double digits with Semi Ojeleye leading the team (18.1, 3rd AAC) followed by Shake Milton (11.9, 21st AAC), Ben Moore (11.2, 25th AAC) and Sterling Brown (10.8, 28th). The Mustangs have outrebounded 12 of 13 opponents and have a +11.1 rebound margin (2nd AAC, 7th NCAA), Five Mustangs average 3.7 or more rebounds with Moore (7.7, 7th), Ojeleye (7.2, 9th AAC) and Brown (6.5, 15th AAC) leading SMU. Milton also leads SMU in assists (4.0, 7thAAC), steals (1.5, 7th AAC) and assist-to-turnover ratio (2.4, 5th AAC).

LAST GAME (W, 71-53 vs. Albany on Dec. 20): DALLAS (AP) -- Semi Ojeleye had a career-high 28 points and SMU outscored Albany by 15 points in the final 10:29 for a 71-53 win on Tuesday night. The Mustangs (10-3) took a 63-48 lead with 5:34 left when Shake Milton's 3-pointer capped a 14-2 run. The Great Danes (7-6) replied with a 5-2 burst to get within 12, but SMU closed out its sixth straight win by scoring all six points in the final two minutes, including 4 of 5 free throws. Sterling Brown added 12 points for SMU and Milton and Jarrey Foster added 10 points each. Ojeleye was 4 of 6 from 3-point range and the Mustangs went 8 for 17 from the arc. Joe Cremo led Albany with 15 points. The Great Danes had their first lead at 16-15 and led once more at 32-31 just before Ojeleye hit a 3 to give the Mustangs a two-point lead at halftime.

PREVIOUS GAME (W, 72-49 vs. Stanford on Dec. 19): DALLAS (AP) -- Sterling Brown scored 16 points and SMU ran out to a 32-point lead in the first half of a 72-49 victory against Stanford on Monday night. Semi Ojeleye had 13 points and seven rebounds in the 22nd consecutive non-conference home win for the Mustangs (9-3), who have won five straight since dropping a pair on the road at Southern California and Boise State. SMU shot 59 percent in the first half to 21 percent for the Cardinal (7-4), going ahead 12-0, 30-7 and 44-12 in the most impressive showing under first-year coach Tim Jankovich. Stanford leading scorer Reid Travis didn't get a shot in the first half, when Cardinal starters scored one point. He scored all 10 of his points in the second half, while Marcus Sheffield led Stanford with 13 points. Shake Milton had 11 points and a career-high nine assists, four on alley-oop dunks. Three were to Jarrey Foster, and the other Ben Moore, who had four of SMU's seven blocks, one off its season high. Moore also had 10 points and a game-high nine rebounds.

UP NEXT: The Mustangs play a second straight road game to start American Athletic Conference play, Saturday at East Carolina (12 p.m. ET/11 a.m. CT). SMU's first conference home games are Jan. 4 vs. Temple and Jan. 7 vs. USF.

THE SERIES VS. MEMPHIS (*8-12): SMU and Memphis are meeting for the 21st time. SMU has won four straight matchups, including a sweep last season, winning 80-68 at SMU and 69-62 at the FedExForum. The Mustangs are 5-1 against Memphis since both teams joined The American. The teams were previously in Conference USA together from 2005-13. (*7-12 official, win in 2013-14 vacated)

LAST SEASON VS. MEMPHIS: (W, 80-68, vs. Memphis on Jan. 30) DALLAS (AP) -- No. 13 SMU led for all but 38 seconds in an 80-68 victory over Memphis. SMU's (19-1, 8-1 AAC) Nic Moore, who didn't practice all week after banging his head and shoulder at Temple, scored 22 points for SMU. Shake Milton added 15, and said the Mustangs didn't feel much different going into their first game after a loss. After building a 39-27 halftime lead, SMU got its first points in the second half on a 3-pointer by Jordan Tolbert off an inbounds pass to beat the shot clock. It was only the second 3 this season for the 6-foot-7 Tolbert. Consecutive 3s by Moore made it 53-32, and the Mustangs had matched their largest lead after Milton's alley-oop pass to Tolbert for a dunk with 11 1/2 minutes left made it 64-39. Especially when leading scorer Shaq Goodwin fouled out with 6:28 left. Goodwin scored 18 points to lead Memphis (13-8, 4-4), four nights after his career-high 35 marked the highest-scoring game in the conference this season. Jeremiah Martin had 11 points, and Ricky Tarrant Jr. and Avery Woodson each scored 10. Dedric Lawson grabbed 13 rebounds. Ben Moore and Sterling Brown each had 12 points for SMU. Tolbert grabbed 14 rebounds, and Markus Kennedy had nine points with 10 rebounds. - (W, 69-62 at Memphis on Feb., 25) MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) -- Sterling Brown scored 14 points to help No. 24 SMU shake off pesky Memphis in a 69-62 victory. SMU leading scorer Nic Moore was held without a point in the first half, but his floater with less than a minute to play gave the Mustangs (23-4, 1-4 AAC) a 65-62 lead. Moore finished with 12 points on 4-of-9 shooting. Memphis led 57-56 until Shake Milton hit a 3-pointer and Brown a pair of free throws for a four-point SMU advantage. Jeremiah Martin missed a corner shot that would have given Memphis a lead with less than a minute to go before Moore hit his floater. With his team leading 65-62, Moore stole the ball and Brown drew an intentional foul and made two from the line.
