SMU (6-3) hosts [rv/rv] TCU (8-0) on Wednesday at 7 p.m. This is the 191st matchup in the series as the Horned Frogs visit the renovated Moody Coliseum for the first time. SMU has held off TCU in the past four meetings, including a 75-70 victory in Fort Worth last season.
The Mustangs are 5-0 at home this season after a 74-60 win against Delaware State on Sunday. SMU is 37-3 at home since the start of the 2014-15 season and has 19 straight home wins against non-conference opponents.
Four Mustangs average double digits in scoring with Semi Ojeleye leading the team (17.2, 6th AAC) followed by Ben Moore (11.7, T-25th), Shake Milton (11.1, 29th AAC) and Sterling Brown (10.8). Moore leads the SMU rebounding effort (7.9, 7th), which has a +12.3 margin (1st AAC, 6th NCAA). Six Mustangs average 3.0 or more rebounds with Moore, Ojeleye (7.7, 9th AAC) and Brown (6.7, 15th AAC) leading the way. LAST GAME (W, 74-60 vs. Delaware State on Dec. 4): DALLAS (AP) -- Ben Moore scored 16 points with 11 rebounds, Semi Ojeleye added 15 points and SMU topped Delaware State 70-64 on Sunday. Moore went 6 of 7 from the field and made 4 of 6 free throw attempts. Sterling Brown had 11 points, 13 rebounds and five assists and Harry Froling had 11 as the Mustangs shot over 47 percent overall and outrebounded the Hornets 42-21. Ojeleye nailed a 3-pointer to put SMU up 43-41, and then Shake Milton hit from long distance to make it 46-42. After a 10-point run a little later, SMU cruised the rest of the way. The Mustangs dominated the paint, outscoring DSU 34-18.
UP NEXT: SMU continues its six-game homestand against McNeese State on Wednesday, Dec. 14. The homestand wraps up with Stanford (Monday, Dec. 19) and Albany (Tuesday, Dec. 20). The Mustangs then start American Athletic Conference at Memphis on Tuesday, Dec. 27.
THE SERIES VS. TCU: This is the 191st meeting between the two schools with SMU holding a 105-85 advantage (officially 104-85). SMU is 60-30 against TCU at home. In the last game played at SMU, the Mustangs came out victorious, 68-62, on Feb. 8, 2012. The series dates back to the 1918-19 season with SMU winning the first matchup 30-19 in Dallas and then falling 35-32 in Fort Worth. The rivals were members of the Southwest Conference from 1918-1996 with SMU going 84-64 in league games. The duo then moved to the Western Athletic Conference with TCU going 9-1 against SMU in league play from 1996-2001.
LAST MEETING VS. TCU (W, 75-70 at Wilkerson-Greines Athletic Center on Dec. 2, 2015): FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) - Nic Moore showed no ill effects of a broken pinkie that sidelined him three days earlier for No. 22 SMU. Moore scored 26 points, including 19 in the second half, and the unbeaten Mustangs beat TCU 75-70. Moore, the American Athletic Conference Player of the Year last season, made it 70-all with a 3-pointer that began an 8-0 SMU run to end the game. He hit four of his team's final five field goals and scored nine of the last 12 points for the Mustangs (5-0). All of that came after a brace fell off Moore's right pinkie, which he broke in the season opener on Nov. 14. He has practiced little in the last two weeks. Jankovich was head coach at Illinois State when Moore was a freshman there in 2011-12. When Brown was hired by SMU in 2012, Jankovich became his right-hand man and Moore transferred to the Dallas school at the same time. Sterling Brown made a tiebreaking scoop shot with 1:37 left. Markus Kennedy added 15 points for SMU. Vladimir Brodziansky led the Horned Frogs (3-3) with 18 points. Malique Trent had 13 points and Chauncey Collins scored 12, all on 3-pointers.The Frogs took a 22-10 lead eight minutes in, boosted by a 15-1 run built on 5-for-8 shooting on 3s. SMU closed the half by outscoring TCU 30-15 to take a 40-37 lead. The Frogs missed six straight 3-point tries after taking their early lead. They finished 9-for-27 on 3-pointers. Â
THE SERIES VS. MCNEESE STATE: This is the third meeting between SMU and McNeese State. SMU officially holds a 1-0 record after the Dec. 2, 2013 win was vacated. SMU claimed the first meeting, 70-54, at the Colonial Classic in Tallahassee, Fla., on Nov 13, 2006.
LAST MEETING VS. MCNEESE STATE (W, 88-59 in Curtis Culwell Center on Dec. 2, 2013): GARLAND, Texas (AP) -- Nic Moore hit all five of his 3-point attempts in the first half as SMU combined a long-distance barrage with inside domination to pull away early in its 88-59 rout of McNeese State Monday night. Moore, a sophomore playing his first season for SMU (7-2) after transferring from Illinois State, didn't shoot again, hitting five of six overall, and scored a team-high 15 points. The visiting Cowboys (2-6) were led by Ledrick Eackles, son of former NBA veteran Ledell Eackles, with 21 points. SMU hit 10 3-pointers, one short of its season high, in 14 tries -- and shot only 13 free throws. McNeese State, which came in averaging 23 3-point attempts per game, went 10 for 34 behind the arc and hit 20 of 61 field-goal attempts to shoot 32.8 percent. Moore opened the scoring with a 3-pointer as SMU burst from the gate to a 15-5 lead. He added three more during a 15-0 Mustangs run that left the hosts with a 30-7 lead with 8:21 to play before halftime. SMU continued to connect from both long distance and from close range to take a 52-17 lead at intermission, which would equal its largest of the game. The 52 points in the first half, were the most by an SMU team in the opening half since Dec. 7, 2009 when the Mustangs led Texas State 52-41 at halftime. The Mustangs out-rebounded the Cowboys 42-25 and outscored them in the paint 34-14. The inside-outcome combination allowed SMU to shoot 59.6 percent.
