TAMPA, Fla. (SMU) - The SMU women's tennis team fell to the USF Bulls 4-2 at the USF Varsity Tennis Courts as the Mustangs comeback fell short during singles play.

Doubles play started off with a lineup change for SMU as the No. 46 ITA ranked pair of Vaszilisza Bulgakova and Hristina Dishkova were split up as Bulgakova played with Dasha Sharapova at the No. 1 pair and Dishkova played No. 2 with Ana Perez-Lopez.

The No. 3 match of Macie Elliott and Mary Wright against Chloe Murphy and Vanja Klaric was shortened as the USF team had to retire due to an injury to Klaric. Dishkova and Perez-Lopez fell to Juiana Cardoso and Jessica Cortes Chaves 6-4 then Bulgakova and Sharapova lost against Vera Bessonova and Olga Martinez 7-5 to have USF win the doubles point.

USF earned the first two singles points of the day after Nicole Dzenga beat Elliott (No. 6) 6-1, 6-3 and Cardoso won over Wright 6-3, 6-3 to put the Bulls up 3-0. The Mustangs had won the first set in each of the remaining four singles matches and got wins as Sharapova (No. 3) won 6-2, 7-5 over Martinez and Dishkova (No. 1) won over Cortes Chaves 7-6, 6-2 bringing SMU back within one at 3-2. USF's Ana Roman Dominguez clinched the win for the Bulls after winning over Bulgakova (No. 2) 4-6, 6-4, 6-0.

SMU will return to Dallas to play their next match at home a week from today when they host conference foe Houston on March 19 at 1:00 p.m. CT.
