COLLEGE STATION, Texas (SMU) - SMU men's diver Bryce Klein, who punched his ticket to the 2016 NCAA Division I Men's Swimming and Diving Championship last night on the 3 meter, finished 13th in tonight's 1 meter final at the NCAA Zone D Diving Championship held on the campus of Texas A&M University.
The sophomore advanced to the evening's final, finishing one spot off NCAA Championship qualification with a two-round total of 646.55. The top seven automatically qualified in the event, while competitors who earned a top seven placement on 3 meter qualified if they finished inside the top 12 and previously had a qualification score in the event this season.
Klein posted a 769.85 in last night's 3 meter competition to earn his first ever invite to the NCAA Championship. In two seasons with the Mustangs, Klein is a two-time conference champion, and five-time all-league selection. He also holds the American Athletic Conference meet record on the 1 meter, and both the 1- and 3-meter SMU program records.
Seniors Daniel Pitts (249.60) and Parker Meinecke (225.55) completed their careers this evening on the 1 meter, placing 26th and 27th, respectively. Both divers also represented SMU in last night's 3 meter competition.
