PALM COAST, Fla. (SMU) - Senior Jenny Haglund fired a 2-under on the second 18 to rise six spots into second place on the individual leaderboard at the American Athletic Conference Championship Monday. Haglund is 2-over 146 for the tournament, leading a Mustang squad that carded 14-over for a two-round 613. The tournament is being held on the Ocean Course at the Hammock Beach Resort.
No. 29 SMU (311-302--613) currently sits fourth in the team standings, while No. 28 Houston (319-285--604) rose six spots to head into the final round atop the leaderboard. USF (+33) and No. 32 East Carolina (+34) will join Houston in the top group on the final day.
Haglund shot even par on the front nine before registering four birdies after the turn to secure a 70 for the round. Her two-round birdie total of six ties her for the second-most in the 45-player field. As a team, the Mustangs sit second in the category with 20.
"Jenny played a very nice round of golf today," head coach Jeanne Sutherland said. "She was able to recover after a few bogies and that's the difference with this wind out here. Being able to bounce back is the difference between salvaging the round and having a rough day."
Freshman Brigitte Dunne (74-78--152) is second in SMU's individual effort currently in a three-way tie for 12th with Houston's Yuka Kajiki and Madison Thomas of Memphis.
Junior Lindsey McCurdy (+15) is part of a two-way tie for 28th, while Katie Page and Alexandra Rossi sit square with two other players at +18 and tied for 32nd. Rossi's total included a second-round 3-over, a 12-shot improvement from round one.
UCF's Ashley Holder leads the field at 1-over 145 and USF's Nicole Autrique holds steady in third at +3.
"This is a championship course and the winds have been strong out here," Sutherland said. "We haven't executed our best, but we are still in a good position heading into the final round and we're going to give it our best shot."
The Mustangs begin the final round of the tournament on Tuesday at 8 a.m. ET/7 a.m. CT and will be paired with Memphis and UCF.
