FINAL RESULTS

PALM COAST, Fla. (SMU) - The 29th-ranked SMU women's golf team carded its best round of 301 at the American Athletic Conference Championship on Tuesday, to finish the tournament in fourth place with a three-round 914. Senior Jenny Haglund (76-70-73—219) finished in a two-way tie for third, with her best round of 2-under coming on Monday.

No. 28 Houston (+30) took the team title and the automatic NCAA Regionals berth, while No. 32 East Carolina (+40) and USF (+46) rounded out the top three. Frida Gustafsson Spang (-1) of East Carolina took medalist honors, one stroke ahead of UCF's Ashley Holder. The event was held at the Hammock Beach Resort's Ocean.

Haglund was one of two Mustangs to finish inside the top five of the 45-player field. In her first conference championship, Brigitte Dunne (74-78-71--223) tied for fifth at 7-over, which included a 1-under on the final 18 to climb seven spots on the leaderboard. Both Haglund and Dunne finished the tournament with eight birdies, tying them for the fourth-most in the field.

Haglund has now registered top-three finishes in each of the three American Athletic Conference Tournaments. She took medalist honors as a sophomore, and went on to earn runner-up accolades after a playoff at the 2015 event.

Junior Lindsey McCurdy (80-79-79--238) finished the tournament tied for 25th, while Alexandra Rossi (87-75-78--240) and Katie Page (81-81-83--245) were tied for 31st and 37th, respectively.

The Mustangs have posted a pair of championship finishes this season, at the Marilynn Smith/Sunflower Invitational and the Clover Cup. Overall, they have finished inside the top five on eight occasions and earned their highest Golfstat ranking of 27th on March 31. McCurdy has a tournament win along with five top-10 performances, while Haglund has finished among the field's top-10 six times this season.

SMU now awaits the Women's Golf Championships Regional Selection Show that takes place Monday, April 25th at 6 p.m. ET/5 p.m. CT. A total of 72 teams and 24 individuals will be selected to compete at four regional sites May 5-7, with 24 teams and 12 individuals advancing to the NCAA National Championship May 20-25 in Eugene, Oregon.
