DALLAS (SMU) -
The 27th-ranked SMU women's golf team posted its seventh top-five finish of the 2015-16 season, finishing fourth at the SMU/DAC Invitational on Saturday. The two-day, 54-hole event was held at the Dallas Athletic Club.

"I was really pleased with our comeback today. Our goal coming in to today was to climb and we did it," head coach Jeanne Sutherland said.

The Mustangs climbed three spots following the first round, and continued up another three to close out tournament play.

"We did a great job of making the adjustments we talked about yesterday," Sutherland added. "We put up a great fight, played smart golf and put ourselves in a great position. It's really fun to see them fight hard for every shot. This team gives me all they have."

No. 10 Oklahoma State carried the lowest total over all three rounds and finished 4-over. The 868 was the lowest three-round total in the event's four year history. Eighteenth ranked UNLV earned runner-up honors at 24-over, while No. 13 Washington was third at 31-over.

Alexandra Rossi registered a 1-over in the final round putting her at +6 for the tournament and in a three-way tie for 15th place. The senior carded 13 birdies to lead the Mustangs and all but three players in the field, and set the pace in par four scoring.

Junior Katie Page was also in the top 20, finishing in a tie for 18th. Page shot even par in the second round and finished out the event at 1-over for a three-round 7-over 223.

Freshman Brigitte Dunne (+12) tied for 32nd overall, while Lindsey McCurdy (+17) and Alex Celli (+17) finished tied for 56th.

Yupaporn Kawinpakorn, who was last year's runner-up following a two-hole playoff round, won medalist honors this year carding a 6-under, which included the tournament's lowest round in four years, a 67 in round two.

At the conclusion of the tournament, Sutherland and assistant coach David Von Ins honored Jenny Haglund and Rossi, this year's senior class.

"It was the last home tournament for our two seniors and we really owe them a lot for their work ethic and leadership," Sutherland said. "They came to this program when it was ranked No. 110 and now we're up to 27th. It really speaks of the impact they've made in their four years and we've been able to build a program on their shoulders."

SMU's fourth place finish at the event was its highest since the event began in 2013.

The Mustangs are back in action on Friday and Saturday for the Texas Tech Invitational. Rounds one and two will be played on Friday, and action closes out on Saturday with round there.
