FRANKLIN, Tenn. (SMU) – After two rounds at the Mason Rudolph Championship, the SMU women's golf team remains in third place carding a 5 over 293 at the Vanderbilt Legends Club of Tennessee North Course. The Mustangs have a two-round total of 5 over 581, just a stroke behind Northwestern. Alabama leads the field at 14 under 562.
Individually, freshman
Faith Summers and
Lindsey McCurdy lead the Mustangs, both occupying spots inside the top 15 of the 81 player field. Summers, who is tied for eighth, and McCurdy, who is knotted at 12th, went 1 under on the day, dropping Summers to 2 under for the tournament and improving McCurdy to even par.
"I was proud of the team for their great attitude on a tough day," head coach
Jeanne Sutherland said. "They dealt with their umbrellas, wet equipment, soaked golf course and pretty hard rains with a lot of focus and grit."
McCurdy posted an impressive 4 under on the front nine to start the day, including three birdies and one of the tournament's two eagles on No. 9. Overall, McCurdy and Summers have each registered eight birdies in the first two rounds.
Sophomore
Brigitte Dunne sits in a tie for 22nd place following her second round 3 over 75, and freshman
Kenzie Wright is close behind in the standings tied for 26th at 4 over 148. Also representing the Mustangs is senior
Katie Page, who went 7 over in the second round.
Alabama's Cheyenne Knight continues to lead the field with a two-day 9 under 135, while Kristen Gillman (Alabama) and Sarah Burnham (Michigan State) are tied for second at 5 under 139.
The Mason Rudolph Championship concludes with round three action on Sunday. The Mustangs tee off at 9:40 a.m. CT and are paired with Alabama and Northwestern. Follow live at birdiefire.com.
