LAST GAME (L, 66-64 at [22/22] Cincinnati on Jan. 12): CINCINNATI (AP) -- Troy Caupain scored 16 points and blunted SMU's comeback, and No. 22 Cincinnati let most of a 15-point lead slip away before holding on for a 66-64 victory.
Sterling Brown had a go-ahead three-pointer for SMU that rimmed out with 10 seconds remaining and a put-back by
Ben Moore rolled off the rim as the Bearcats (14-2, 4-0) won a matchup of the last two unbeaten teams in American Athletic Conference play. Gary Clark led Cincinnati with 18 points, including two 3s that matched his career high. SMU (14-4, 4-1) lost its 10-game winning streak.
Sterling Brown led the Mustangs with a season-high 20 points and 11 rebounds, but missed a 3-point shot that would have given the Mustangs the lead with 10 seconds left. Kyle Washington had a pull-up jumper and a 3-pointer during a 16-point run that put Cincinnati ahead 27-12. SMU opened the game 4 of 19 from the field with five turnovers.
Semi Ojeleye was limited to two free throws in the first half. He finished with 12 points.

THE SERIES VS. TULANE (18-13): SMU and Tulane meet for the 32nd time, with SMU holding an 18-13 series lead. The Mustangs swept last season, winning 60-45 at Tulane on Jan. 17, before a 74-53 victory at Moody on Feb. 28. SMU is 13-2 at home. SMU is 5-11 at Tulane. The first meeting between the programs came on Dec. 18, 1959, an 86-61 victory for SMU.

Malik Morgan had 15 points and Louis Dabney added 12 for Tulane (10-19, 3-13), which dropped into a last-place tie with East Carolina. SMU trailed 33-32 with 17:21 remaining in the game when it went on an 11-0 run to move ahead for good. Markus Kennedy scored 13 points and No. 10 SMU overcame uncharacteristically poor shooting, pulling away late to remain the nation's only unbeaten Division I team with a 60-45 victory over Tulane.
Jordan Tolbert and
Nic Moore scored 12 points each for the Mustangs (17-0, 6-0), who shot 40.4 percent (21 of 52) and did not take the lead for good until
Ben Moore's running floater as he was fouled made it 33-30 with 12:41 to go. Melvin Frazier scored 11 points and Malik Morgan had 10 for Tulane (8-11, 1-5).
Ben Moore finished with 11 points for SMU, which went 1 of 10 from 3-point range, but made up for it by outscoring Tulane 32-16 in the paint. SMU committed 15 turnovers, but also was able to convert Tulane's 20 turnovers into 21 points. Dabney's 3-pointer gave Tulane a 28-27 lead early in the second half, and the Wave briefly widened the lead to 30-27 soon after, when Frazier stole the ball from Brown and converted a breakaway layup. The Mustangs scored the next eight points, highlighted by
Ben Moore's three-point play. While SMU never trailed again, Tulane remained within single digits for most of the second half and trailed only 48-41 after Frazier's dunk on an alley-oop pass.

HEAD COACH TIM JANKOVICH... is in his first season at the helm at SMU after four seasons as the associate head coach. He is in his 34th season as a collegiate coach, and his 12th as a head coach. In 2015-16, the Mustangs finished 25-5, finishing the season ranked No. 24 after reaching a high of No. 8. SMU was the last unbeaten team in the country, starting 18-0, winning the Las Vegas Classic title during the season-opening streak. In 2014-15, the Mustangs claimed the American Athletic Conference regular season and tournament championships en route to the NCAA Tournament. SMU was the top seed in the 2014 NIT, reaching the title game. This is his 10th season as the leader of a Division I program, including five as head coach at Illinois State (2007-12) and four at North Texas (1993-97). As a head coach, he is 180-125 (.590) [23-4 at SMU, including 18-0 at Moody Coliseum]. That includes a 104-64 mark at ISU where his teams recorded four top-three finishes in the Missouri Valley, reached the conference tournament final three times and earned four NIT bids. As an assistant or head coach, his teams are 628-375 (.626) with six regular season conference championships, four league tournament titles, nine NCAA Tournament appearances and eight NIT bids.

AWARDS - JERRY WEST SHOOTING GUARD OF THE YEAR NOMINEE: Sophomore
Shake Milton is one of 20 candidates named to the 2017 Jerry West Shooting Guard of the Year Award watch list, the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame announced Oct. 18. The annual honor recognizes the top shooting guards in Division I men's college basketball. As a freshman, Milton was a unanimous AAC All-Rookie selection after ranking third in the league for 3-point percentage (42.6, 52-122), 13th in field goal percentage (47.7) and 28th in scoring (10.5). He also averaged 2.7 assists (13th AAC) and 3.0 rebounds with a 1.8 assist-to-turnover ratio as he helped the Mustangs to a 25-5 season. This summer, he was a shooting guard at the 2016 Nike Hoops Summit in Los Angeles and went to Croatia with a Global Sports Academy U.S. Team.

AWARDS - ALLSTATE NABC GOOD WORKS TEAM NOMINEE: Jonathan Wilfong is a nominee for the 2017 Allstate National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Good Works Team, a distinguished award that highlights student-athletes who have shown dedication to community service and altruism in their communities. The senior is a co-founder of Coaching for Literacy (coachingforliteracy.org), an organization that helps fund literacy programs focused on helping elementary and middle school students. The mission of Coaching for Literacy is to increase awareness about the number of people in America who are functionally or totally illiterate and the social problems associated with illiteracy. By partnering with sports teams from across the country for a unique game-day experience, Coaching for Literacy raises money to supports effective local literacy programs and schools focused on educating elementary and middle school students. This is the second straight season SMU has a nominee after

Ben Moore has 1024 career points (37th at SMU), and became the 39th person in program history to 1,000 points (on a dunk vs. Temple 1/4/17). CLASSROOM RECORDS: SMU's football, men's basketball and women's basketball programs had a record-setting fall semester in the classroom. The football and women's basketball teams set program-best cumulative grade-point-averages while men's basketball reached its highest cumulative GPA since 2004. It was the second-straight outstanding semester for all three programs. Football had a new program high in the spring of 2016. Spring of 2016 also saw women's basketball record its best spring since 2005 and men's basketball post its best mark since 2011. ROAD WARRIORS: The Mustangs are 18-11 on the road since the start of the 2014-15 season with a 23-13 mark away from Moody Coliseum (5-2 neutral site).
