DALLAS (SMU) – SMU won all three of its matches in doubles play, while also picking up a victory in singles play Monday afternoon on the final day of Metroplex Mania.
Unable to play outdoors for the fourth consecutive day due to inclement weather, the Mustangs opened play indoors against North Texas before facing Rice in singles play.
The day started with doubles play with
Ana Perez-Lopez and
Sarai Monarrez Yesaki, who posted a 6-1 victory against Maria Kononova and Minying Liang.
Senior duo of
Mary Wright and
Macie Elliott made quick work of Haruka Sasaki and Alexis Thomas with a 6-1 win, while freshmen
Charline Anselmo and
Sara Jamal earned their second doubles victory of the weekend with a 6-3 victory against Alexandra Heczey and Ivana Babic.
In singles play, Anselmo recorded her second victory of the four-day event with a 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 win against Rice's Priya Niezgoda.
SMU will now turn its attention to the spring dual season as the Mustangs will host Abilene Christian and Prairie View A&M in a doubleheader Sunday, Jan. 29.
