DALLAS (SMU) – Garrett McLaughlin led No. 14 SMU to a 2-0 victory with a pair of goals against Oral Roberts Tuesday night at Westcott Field.

"We were good tonight. We played very well and created a lot of chances," Head Coach Kevin Hudson said. "We did not finish as well as we could have, but 2-0 is still a pretty comprehensive win."

The Mustangs improved to 9-0 all-time against the Golden Eagles to close out their non-conference slate. SMU pushed its win streak to five and moved to 11-2 overall on the season.

McLaughlin first goal of the night came in the 32nd minute, which was his ninth tally of the season. The 2016 American Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year added his 10th goal of the year in the 71st minute with a header to extend the Mustangs lead. McLaughlin recorded his fifth game-winner of the year.

SMU offense was aggressive with 22 shots, including nine on goal. Defensively, the Mustangs backline held Oral Roberts to five shots with only one on goal. SMU also had an 8-0 advantage on corner kicks.

In the net, goalkeeper Michael Nelson finished with a save and earned his second consecutive shutout and sixth of the season.

SMU returns to conference play Saturday at Cincinnati for an 8 p.m. ET/7 p.m. CT kickoff.
