OKLAHOMA CITY (SMU) - SMU rowing opened its 2017-18 season over the weekend at the Head of the Oklahoma, logging a number of solid performances during the two-day event.
"We were fortunate to be able to come up and compete at this race," head coach
Kim Cupini said. "Early fall races are always a good learning experience for everyone and it's great to see where we stack up when we get back to work this week."
The Mustangs best finish came in the Open 2-, with
Alyssa Sands and
Lauren Vanek rowing to a sixth-place finish out of 30 entries with a time of 16:49.318.
In the night sprints on Saturday, the Mustangs narrowly missed out on taking the Collegiate 4+ A, finishing runner-up by just under four-tenths of a second. In the Collegiate 8+ B, SMU also finished second.
In the Open 4+, the combination of
Emily Fogg (coxswain),
Juliet Traylor,
Erin Pierce,
Emily MacAdam and
Laura Bell grabbed a third-place finish (16:27.903).
The Mustangs compete in another head-style regatta when they return to action on November 3 at the Tulsa Fall Invitational.
