CARY, N.C. (SMU/NCAA) – The No. 10 SMU men's soccer team fell to No. 7 North Carolina, 2-0, in the third round of the NCAA Men's Soccer Championship Saturday evening at WakeMed Soccer Park.
The Mustangs finish their season 17-3-1, the most wins since 2006. The Tar Heels improved to 16-3-1 and advance to the quarterfinals next week to face Fordham (14-5-3).
After a scoreless first half, North Carolina came out firing early in the second period. The Tar Heels first goal was in the 50th minute after Jack Skahan found the back of the net from 25 yards out. The second goal for North Carolina came in the 83rd minute as Cam Lindley connected with Jelani Peters, who dribbled into the box and knocked in a shot from 15 yards out.
Eddie Munjoma led SMU with two shots with one on goal.

Jordan Cano posted one shot.

Michael Nelson tallied four saves in the net for SMU. Nelson finished the season with 10 shutouts and 68 saves.
