HOLLYWOOD, S.C. (SMU) - Senior
Gray Townsend and Freshman
McClure Meissner each grabbed top-10 finishes as SMU closed out its fall slate at the Battle of Stono Ferry. Townsend used a 2-under final round to finish sixth individually, while Meissner finished tied for seventh.
Townsend finished the tournament at 7-under, going under par in all three rounds (69-70-70—209). The Winston Salem, N.C., native rolled in five birdies on the final day and finished the tournament with 13, the most of any Mustang.
Meissner was a stroke back from Townsend, finishing at 6-under (68-70-72). His first round score of 4-under was the best round by a Mustang at the tournament.
Daniel Connolly finished in a tie for 41
st and improved his score in each round (76-73-72).
As a team, the Mustangs moved up two spots on the final day to finish in a tie for seventh (+4, 868). Campbell claimed the team title by shooting a tournament record 25-under. College of Charleston's Hunter Dunagan's 16-under earned him individual medalist honors.
SMU kicks off the spring season on February 16 at the All-American Intercollegiate at the Golf Club of Houston.
