Quinn, Lawler Named To Phil Steele All-America Teams

CLEVELAND (Phil Steele/SMU) – SMU football's Trey Quinn and Justin Lawler were named to Phil Steele Publications All-America teams, the magazine announced Friday. Quinn is a member of the third team on offense, while Lawler is a third-team defensive selection.
 
Quinn leads the nation in receptions per game (8.8), and has posted two of the three top-reception performances in the FBS this season with 17 catches at Houston and at Cincinnati. He also became the only player this century to register 15+ catches in three straight games.
 
In 12 games this season, Quinn has a team-leading 106 receptions, placing him second on SMU's single-season receptions list. His 1,191 receiving yards are fourth in a season for a Mustang.
 
Quinn was also a first-team All-America selection by Pro Football Focus and a semifinalist for both the Biletnikoff Award and Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award.
 
Lawler is tied for the national lead with three blocked kicks, and is 10th in sacks per game (0.79).
 
The senior finished the regular season with a team-best 9.5 sacks, placing him fifth in a single season at SMU and bringing his career total to 20.5, 13th among active FBS players. Lawler also has a team-high 15.5 tackles for loss, and leads the team with 10 quarterback hurries. He is second on the team with 74 tackles.
 
Lawler was a member of the final Ted Hendricks Award watch list and was also named to the Chuck Bednarik, Bronko Nagurski and Wuerffel Trophy preseason lists and was a nominee for the AFCA Good Works Team and Senior CLASS Award.
 
Both Mustangs earned first-team All-American Athletic Conference accolades and were first-team selections to Phil Steele's Postseason All-AAC Team. Xavier Jones, Courtland Sutton and Evan Brown were named to Phil Steele conference second teams, while Jordan Wyatt was a third-team honoree.
