Chargois Named Rookie of the Week, Whitt Named To Honor Roll

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (SMU/AAC) – Freshman Ethan Chargois was named the American Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week, and sophomore Jimmy Whitt was named to the weekly honor roll, the league announced Monday.
In the 79-66 win against New Orleans, Chargois scored 16 points on 5-10 shooting, including 2-4 from the 3-point range, while playing 30 minutes. The Tulsa, Okla., native also grabbed a game-high eight rebounds, tallied four blocks and three assists.
Chargois is averaging 13.0 points (T17th AAC), while averaging a team-best 5.6 rebounds (T18 AAC). The freshman is shooting 55.1 percent (49-89) from the field (9th AAC) and 43.6 percent (17-39) from beyond the 3-point arc (11th AAC). The freshman has scored 10 or more points in eight of 11 games this season.
Whitt led the Mustangs against New Orleans with a career-high 19 points on 8-of-11 shooting. The Columbia, Mo., native added a career-high eight assists, with six rebounds and three steals in 34 minutes of work.
Whitt leads The American with 4.9 assists per game, and is third with a 2.1 assist/turnover ratio. He is averaging 10.7 points on 56.0 percent (51-91) shooting (8th AAC). He is averaging 5.0 rebounds and1.5 steals (T8th AAC).
The Mustangs host Boise State tonight at 8 p.m., before hosting Cal Poly on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
