DALLAS (SMU) – After more than a week off from competition, the SMU women's tennis team looked sharp as the Mustangs snapped Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's 25-match regular season winning streak with a 6-1 victory at Turpin Stadium.

The Islanders fell to 4-1 on the season after entering Wednesday's contest with the nation longest regular season winning streak. The Mustangs improved to 6-0 in dual matches this season and won their fourth match of the year against Southland Conference opponents.

SMU now holds an 8-1 all-time record against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.

The Mustangs continued their strong play in doubles play improving to 13-1. SMU picked up the first point in the match after recording wins in No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. Ana Perez-Lopez and Sarai Monarrez Yesaki shutout Judit Vives and Maria Maldonado, 6-0, while Mary Wright and Macie Elliott defeated Louise Trigona and Marina Vicens Miquel.

In singles play, SMU extended its lead with Liza Buss winning in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0 against Hortense Boscher. Monarrez Yesaki also won in straight sets in No. 2 singles with a 6-3, 7-5 win against Jelena Dzinic, while Ana Perez-Lopez defeated Vives in three sets, 6-0, 4-6, 6-1.

Dasha Sharapova improved to 6-0 in duals after a 6-4, 6-0 victory in No. 4 singles against Trigona. Wright also remained undefeated in duals (4-0) after a 6-3, 7-5 win against Marina Vicens Miquel in No. 6 singles.

SMU will head to Norman, Oklahoma, for its first road match of the year as the Mustangs will face Oklahoma at the Headington Family Tennis Center on Sunday, Feb. 19 at 11 a.m. CT.
