DALLAS (SMU) – The SMU women's tennis team ended its two-match losing streak with a thrilling 4-3 victory against Nevada Sunday at the SMU Tennis Complex.

The Mustangs improved to 7-2 on the season, while the Wolf Pack fell to 3-4. SMU defeated Nevada for the second straight season and remains undefeated against the Wolf Pack with a 6-0 record all-time.

Nevada struck first taking the doubles point winning the No. 1 and No. 3 matches. Liza Buss and Dasha Sharapova fell to Sheila Morales and Adriana Gergelyova, 7-5. The Wolf Pack's Blaga Delic and Milena Achalmov clinched the point with a 7-6 victory against Mary Wright and Macie Elliott. Ana-Perez Lopez and Sarai Monarrez secured their ninth doubles victory with a 6-3 win against Claudia Herrero and Carlijn Ketting in the No. 2 slot.

SMU responded in singles play with three straight wins starting with Dasha Sharapova in the No. 4 slot. She won in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1, against Delic to give her eight wins in dual play. Macie Elliot then defeated Achlamov, 6-3, 6-4, to give the Mustangs a 2-1 lead. SMU extended its lead after Buss beat No. 77 Claudia Herrero, 6-4, 6-2, in No. 1 singles to earn her first victory against a ranked opponent this season.

Nevada battled back to tie the match at 3-3 after winning the No. 5 and No. 2 matches. In the No. 3 slot, Ana Perez-Lopez secured a victory for the Mustangs after a hard fought match against Gergelyova. With the match on the line, Perez-Lopez didn't flinch and won the tie-breaker 6-4, 7-6 (9-7).

SMU returns to the court for the second match of its doubleheader Sunday against UT Permian Basin at 3:30 p.m.
