SMU Second, Three Mustangs In Top 10 At The Dickson

Round 1 Results / Round 2 Results / Live Scoring / Round 3 Pairings

THE WOODLANDS, Texas (SMU) – After day one of action at The Dickson, the SMU women's golf team sits second on the team leaderboard with a two-round 7-under 569. Three Mustangs finished the day inside the top 10 with sophomore Brigitte Dunne leading the way tied for third at 6-under 138.

No. 3 Florida State leads the 16-team field at 22-under 554. No. 10 Kent State (-1) is third, while No. 18 Purdue, No. 35 Texas Tech and No. 17 Texas A&M are in a three-way tie for fourth (+1).

"I think we looked great out there today," head coach Jeanne Sutherland said. "Looking back to UCF, I said we looked great then too, but today we just got more putts to fall. We go into every tournament letting the players make their own game plan and they're really getting comfortable and confident with how they're playing.

"This course is all about angles, management and strategy. They've managed themselves well on this course and I want to see them really go out and get after it tomorrow."

Dunne (68-70--138) is just three strokes out of the lead held by Florida State's Morgan Metraux and Texas A&M's Maddie Szeryk. The sophomore shares the tournament lead with 11 birdies over 36 holes, and opened the day shooting 4-under on the first 18. The first-round 4-under ties Dunne at eighth on SMU's all-time list for low round versus par.

Freshman Kenzie Wright (71-69--140) climbed 10 spots on the individual leaderboard after round one to finish the day in sixth place at 4-under. The freshman shot a nearly unblemished second round, which included one of the tournament's only six eagles on hole 15 and a pair of birdies. Senior Lindsey McCurdy (70-71--141) also turned in a top 10 performance after two rounds, registering 10 birdies of her own en route to a 3-under 141.

Freshman Ana Paula Ramirez also contributed to the Mustangs' team scoring going 3-over in both rounds, while senior Katie Page is also representing the Ponies.

SMU was in a two-way tie for third with Kent State following the first 18 holes, but had the second lowest round two total behind Florida State to gain sole possession of second place.

"Overall, I'm really proud of them and it's fun to watch a team as upbeat and as positive as them play golf," Sutherland concluded.

Round three action resumes with a Tuesday, 8 a.m. CT shotgun start, and has SMU paired with Florida State and Kent State. Follow live scoring at golfstatresults.com.
