Dunne Leads SMU With Third-Place Finish At The Dickson

Final Results

THE WOODLANDS, Texas (SMU) – Sophomore Brigitte Dunne led the SMU women's golf team to a sixth-place finish at The Dickson on The Championship Course at The Woodlands Country Club Tuesday. Dunne shot par or better in each round to finish 6-under 210.

No. 3 Florida State won the tournament with a three-round 21-under 843. No. 10 Kent State (+3) finished second, while No. 30 TCU (+4) rounded out the top three. Florida State's Morgane Metraux earned medalist honors, carding a 14-under 202, while Texas A&M's Maddie Szeryk (-8) was two strokes ahead of Dunne in second.

It was the first career top-three finish for Dunne, and her first inside the top five this season. Her round-one 68 was her lowest round of the season thus far, as well as her third career round in the 60s. The sophomore came into the final day tied for third at six under and shot even-par, including an eagle to open the round and four birdies, on the final 18 to secure her placement. Overall, Dunne had the third highest birdie total of the tournament, registering 15 of the Mustangs' 40.

"I'm proud of Brigitte, she had a great tournament," head coach Jeanne Sutherland said of her play.

Lindsey McCurdy picked up her seventh top-15 finish of the season posting a pair of rounds under par, finishing 1-over 217 in a six-way tie for 12th place. Freshman Kenzie Wright also finished inside the top 20, doing so for the sixth time this season, with a three-round 3-over 219 to finish tied for 20th.

"Every win is important, as is ever shot versus ranked teams. Our first two rounds put us in position to beat some folks who were ranked ahead of us," Sutherland said. "We will learn from today. We didn't handle tough conditions well and lost track of our game plan and started pressing.

"Our young players will get better at recognizing a tough day and simply doing what you can instead of doubling up their mistakes. This team can play with anyone and they're starting to show that, but they need to get it done in any condition."

The Mustangs return to action March 14 & 15 at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational in Kane'Ohe O'ahu. Check SMUMustangs.com for ways to follow.
