DALLAS (SMU) – With the match tied at 3-3, Ana Perez-Lopez delivered a come-from-behind win in No. 3 singles against Devin Chyphya (2-6, 6-3, 6-4) that sealed the 4-3 victory for SMU against Arizona Sunday evening in front of a packed crowd inside the Ann and Brad Brookshire Family Pavilion.

"This match exemplifies what college tennis is about. We had an unbelievable crowd in attendance today, the best crowd we've ever had," head coach Kati Gyulai said. "We want to say thank you to all the fans for the support and to let them know that it really made a difference."

Perez-Lopez recorded her eighth victory in dual matches this season while helping SMU get its first win in the series against Arizona. The Mustangs have won four straight matches and have improved to 10-2 this season, while the Wildcats fell to 8-3.

Arizona took an early to 2-0 lead in the match after securing the doubles point and No. 27 Lauren Marker defeating Liza Buss, 6-1, 6-3, in No. 1 singles.

SMU fought back to tie the match at 2-2 with Dasha Sharapova picking up a 6-3, 6-3 win against Marie Van Aelst in No. 4 singles and Mary Wright registering a 7-5, 6-2 victory against Maggie Cohen in the No. 6 slot.

Arizona's Camilia Wesbrooks claimed the No. 5 singles match with a close 6-1, 3-6, 6-2 win against Ellie Zogg to give the Wildcats a 3-2 lead.

However, the Mustangs responded with Sarai Monarrez Yesaki defeating Paris Corley 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 to even the match at 3-3, followed by Perez-Lopez win to give SMU the victory.  

SMU continues its homestand next week against Wichita State Friday, March 10. First serve is slated for 7 p.m. CT at the SMU Tennis Complex.
