DENTON, Texas (SMU) – Liza Buss picked up her third win against a ranked opponent as the SMU women's tennis team fell 6-1 at North Texas Thursday evening.

The Togliatti, Russia, native grabbed the Mustangs only point in No. 1 singles with a 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (7-4) victory against No. 71 Maria Kononova. The sophomore has also recorded wins against then No. 77 Claudia Herrero (Nevada - Feb. 26) and then No. 117 Giulia Guidetti (Wichita State – March 10).

The Mustangs (16-5) nine match winning streak against the Mean Green (8-11) was snapped with North Texas getting its first win in the series since 1998. SMU is now 10-2 all-time against North Texas.

The Mean Green won the doubles point with victories in the No. 1 and No. 3 matches. Tamuna Kutubidze and Maria Kononova defeated Buss and Macie Elliott, 6-3, in the No. 1 slot, while Minying Liang and Alexis Thoma clinched the victory with a 6-2 win against Dasha Sharapova and Mary Wright. Sarai Monarrez Yesaki and Ana Perez-Lopez grabbed their 15th win of the season in No. 2 doubles after a 6-2 victory against Ivana Babic and Alexandra Heczey.

After a three-match road trip, the Mustangs return home for its regular season finale Friday, April 14 against ULM. First serve is slated for 1 p.m. CT.
